A Local Financial Services Agency Doing Something Different to Truly Understand Their Clients.

In September 2009 Richard Marooney ventured onto the frozen tundra of Minnesota from Philadelphia to become the new Managing Partner of the MN and IA’s office of New England Financial (a MetLife Company). After sitting down with the agency marketing director, Erica Schuenemann, they determined a business strategy that would focus on the three biggest sectors their clients were in: health care, technology, and manufacturing. In order to better serve these clients, they began forming resource ‘networks’ for the Healthcare, Technology, and Manufacturing industries, made up of professionals and leaders in these particular industries so they could share best practices with one another.

The overall mission of Mid American Financial Group’s different resource networks are to broaden the scope of understanding regarding the unique and ongoing challenges the healthcare, technology, and manufacturing industries face. By fostering connections among key industry players that otherwise may not be made, each different Resource Network is a forum that facilitates:

-  The sharing of insights on their industry’s evolving environment;
-  Increased individual business and industry benefits from service providers who understand and specialize in serving the industry’s unique needs; and
-  The identification and sharing of opportunities with professionals who are in positions to positively impact the industry.

The Concept

The (Healthcare/Technology/Manufacturing) Resource Network is comprised of top industry professionals from Minnesota who meet regularly to discuss issues of concern to the industry. Each Industry Resource Group, which are sponsored by Mid American Financial Group, has three components:

1.      Board of Advisors. The members of this Board serve as a sounding board for the Industry Resource Network, providing input and direction.

2.      A Consortium of Industry Resources. The consortium consists of professionals who work in the industry and have special knowledge and regarding topics of special interest. These experts will be available to speak, co-sponsor and otherwise address primary areas of interest to the industry, e.g., attorneys to speak to patent or other areas specific to each industry, CPAs who specialize in the business and personal planning needs of those in the industry.

The Consortium will grow as the Network does.

3.      A Team of Professionals from Mid American Financial Group. This team is comprised of agency professionals who are working to focus their practice in the healthcare, manufacturing or technology industries. They will serve as the organizers of the Resource Network and will work to enhance its presence and effectiveness in the industry.

Board of Advisors members will be asked to attend and annual Board meeting, provide us with input and suggestions, and help Mid American Financial Group identify key industry issues that could be covered at meetings with a special speaker, that could be topics for an industry-wide seminar or that might be useful for an article in their planned Industry Resource Network newsletter.

Mid American Financial Group is committed to make the Board valuable through networking, exposure and information sharing. This will in turn enhance continued growth and prosperity within the healthcare, technology, and manufacturing industries.

The benefits are fivefold:

1.      Networking. As a Board member, you will build relationships and serve with some of the area’s leading professionals in your industry.

2.      Business-Building. By sharing information with one another, we hope to uncover solutions to the challenges you face everyday in running your business.

3.      Efficiency. By meeting and networking with professionals who understand the industry, you will save time and money by establishing contacts with the professionals who can help you operate your business better.

4.      Enhancement of the Industry. The Resource Network is dedicated to creating a more profitable and effective industry. Your participation will help improve the overall operating environment of your industry, which will help your business prosper in the long run.

5.      Event Participation and Exposure. As a Board member, you receive special consideration for attendance at and participation in upcoming seminars we have planned as well as exposure in all Industry Resource Network publications and promotional activities.

Although these boards are still in the process of being formed, this concept is not new to Rich Marooney. At his previous New England Financial Firm, their focus was the food, construction and manufacturing industries. They have been running these resource networks for over 15 years and have had great success from it.   Not only has it helped them build their referability in the industry, but it has brought added value to their board members by providing resources to help them solve industry issues and allow them to network and share best practices with each other. During those years their firm has held countless board meetings, seminars and client and industry events. The Resource Network Boards are not solely comprised of clients; some may be referrals from people already on the board or existing non-client relationships. If you would like to hear more about Mid American Financial Group’s HealthCare, Technology or Manufacturing Resource Networks or would like to discuss becoming a potential board member please contact Erica Schuenemann at 952-258-5112, eschuenemann@minneapolis.nef.com, or visit their website www.mn.neffirm.com.

CHILD SAFETY CLINICS

Since Jan. 2009, we have been doing child safety clinics for local schools, day care centers, city events and other organizations around the metro area.  Our parent company, MetLife, partners with area centers for Missing and Exploited Children and law enforcement to provide us with booklets for parents to record pertinent information about their child including photo and fingerprint card.  Normally the local police or sheriff's dept. is there to fingerprint the children and give tips on child safety.

La Crosse, WI - Minneapolis, MN
August 22-23, 2008

205 miles, 12 runners, 24 hours.  Sound Tough?  Not for these committed MAFG employees coming from MAFG offices in MN and Des Moines, IA.  MN runners were Judd Beeskau, Mark Keeling, Lyndsy Blair, Bryan Schuenemann, Erik Larson, Dan Erickson, Zachary Hway, Ben Hangge, and Alicia Maart and from Iowa were Jon Heim, Nick Wagner.

The run began at the world-famous Mississippi River starting in La Crosse, Wisconsin and ending in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  All proceeds went to Operation Kids, a non profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children. Recognizing the many dimensions to a healthy, happy child, they support a researched community of charities providing solutions to issues affecting children’s education, health, safety and well being.
